During today’s opening press conference IFA received an award from the Land of Ideas, acknowledging its contribution towards future viability.
IFA is one of a number of winners in the nationwide competition to promote innovation in Germany, “365 Locations in the Land of Ideas“. The panel of judges were not only impressed by the innovative strengths of exhibitors at IFA but also by the Science and Technology Forum (TWF), which has been one of the central features of IFA for many years.
In his speech in praise of the winners Harald Eisenach, Member of the Board Corporate Customers in Germany and Head of Corporate Customer Business for the North-East Region of Deutsche Bank, pointed out that: “IFA is one of the largest international trade shows for consumer electronics. Its Science and Technology Forum demonstrates a creative passion, innovative strengths, and the ability to pursue ideas and put them into practice.”
Dr. Christian Göke, Chief Operating Officer of Messe Berlin, is delighted with this award: “We are very proud to have been chosen as one of the selected locations in the Land of Ideas. This award emphasizes the lasting links that exist between IFA and its home here in Germany, and the creativity that has enabled us to establish IFA as a trade show with many international exhibitors, visitors and media representatives.”
The TWF is a unique combination of specialist exhibition and a forum for discussions about innovative media technology. In its concentrated form it represents the many technical skills and capabilities of all the various branches of industry, media and institutions participating in IFA. Occupying a display area of more than 2,000 square metres in Hall 5.3 at IFA, from 29 August to 3 September the TWF will be presenting the latest developments from more than 20 universities, research establishments and project groups of international standing.
Dr. Rainer Hecker, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the organizers of IFA, Gesellschaft für Unterhaltungs- und Kommunikationselektronik (gfu), Frankfurt, drew attention to the importance of the TWF for the consumer electronics industry: “As a shop window showing the future of the electronic media we make use of this platform as a means of identifying technological trends, assessing standards, investigating innovative potential and thereby planning for future growth. For Germany as a whole IFA helps to drive competition and, on a worldwide scale, it is one of the industry’s main highlights.”
This year some 1,500 locations and their ideas were entered in the competition “365 Locations in the Land of Ideas”, which the initiative “Germany – Land of Ideas“ has been staging in association with Deutsche Bank for the past three years, under the patronage of Federal President Horst Köhler. “Productiveness and innovative strengths encourage people to develop their potential and exploit opportunities. In this way ideas lead to future success”, says Harald Eisenach, explaining the involvement of Deutsche Bank.
