Frost & Sullivan to Host Quarterly Analyst Briefing on Eco-Sustainability within the ICT sector on Thursday 12 June 2008 at 15.00 BST

LONDON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Frost & Sullivan will host a telephone and web briefing on Thursday 12 June 2008 at 15.00 BST to provide industry participants with an overview of eco-sustainability within the ICT sector.

Climate change, legislation and increasing environmental awareness have led to a burst of green campaigns across the ICT industry. It began with the more subdued campaigns such as battery and mobile phone recycling; championed by leading handset manufacturers. Over the past 18 months, concerns over carbon footprints, waste management and energy efficiency have led to the ‘big boys’ - from BT to Apple (obviously green) and IBM to Sony championing the green agenda. Today, 6 months post the Bali UN Climate Change Conference, governments are under increasing pressure to reduce carbon emission levels. In the telecoms sector in particular, the eco agenda is grabbing headlines. How serious is the Industry about the eco-sustainability?

Frost & Sullivan analyst briefing entitled “Going Eco in Telecoms – Hip, Hype, Happening?” will be answering the above question. The briefing will look at the eco-opportunities across both vendor and operator environments and discuss current industry initiatives with a focus on Europe.

This briefing will benefit service providers, telecom equipment vendors, device manufacturers, alternative energy suppliers, and organizations looking to leverage on the eco-sustainability drive within the ICT sector.

“The end user power consumption of making a voice call via a mobile phone is typically no more than 2% of the total power required for the call to take place. Hence, the bulk of consumption really lies on the supply side. Operators claim that between 80-90% of their energy utilisation takes place in the network and are therefore now pressured to reduce their power consumption and energy costs,” says Sharifah Amirah, Principal Analyst for Frost & Sullivan’s Telecom group.

Frost & Sullivan will hold this conference call at 15.00 BST on Thursday, 12 June 2008, which will provide industry participants with an outlook on the eco-sustainability drive within the ICT sector.
