REI and ease e-waste have joined
forces to provide free electronic waste (e-waste) recycling to all San
Diego County residents on Saturday, May 31, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This special event provides a tremendous opportunity for the entire
community to properly dispose of obsolete monitors, televisions, computers,
printers, copiers, fax machines and cell phones.
Consumers can drop off their obsolete consumer electronics at the ease
e-waste truck that will be located in the parking lot of one of the two
following REI locations:
— 1590 Leucadia Blvd., Encinitas
— 5556 Copley Drive, San Diego
Individuals that donate an e-waste item will receive one reusable bag
and REI 15% discount coupon while supplies last. Those that turn in their
electronics will not only help the environment, but will also help raise
much needed funds for two local charities:
— San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy, a non-profit organization
committed to bringing nature into San Diego’s backyard and to ensure
our natural legacy for generations to come — http://www.sdrvc.org
— I Love A Clean San Diego, a non-profit organization dedicated to
educating the community to actively conserve and enhance the
environment — http://www.ilacsd.org
REI, a national outdoor retail co-op dedicated to inspiring, educating
and outfitting its members and the community for a lifetime of outdoor
adventure and stewardship, is partnering with ease e-waste, a California
EPA certified company specializing in the collection and recycling of
electronic waste. Additionally, businesses such as Oce North America are
sponsoring this joint effort to increase awareness about the importance of
recycling and provide an easy and cost-free way for consumers to properly
dispose of their electronics.
Most consumers recognize that the effects of hazardous materials in
electronics can best be combated by recycling. The act of recycling
prevents the potential contamination of water resources and helps preserve
the earth. The public’s desire to participate in the responsible disposal
of their consumer electronics has been answered with e-waste collection
events sponsored by REI and ease e-waste.
Companies with a large number of items to dispose should contact ease
e-waste at 1-866-548-8100 to arrange electronics recycling.
