SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ — The Silicon Valley Association
of Startup Entrepreneurs (SVASE) today announced the 2008 edition of
Launch: Silicon Valley will be held June 10, 2008, and simultaneously
issued a call for presenters. Up to 30 exciting young companies will be
chosen to present their new product pitches to an audience of Silicon
Valley movers and shakers.
Launch: Silicon Valley is co-presented by the early stage venture
capital firm Garage Technology Ventures and Microsoft. Microsoft again will
host the event at the Microsoft Silicon Valley campus in Mountain View.
Now in its third year, Launch: Silicon Valley has become a premier
venue for emerging technology companies to present new products and
services, generate buzz and network with the some of the most influential
people in the Valley. The event draws several hundred VCs, Angels,
corporate business development executives, prospective customers and
partners, media and bloggers. Participants also have the opportunity to
network with the audience at the Pre-L:SV Event Party on the evening of
June 9, as well as at the event itself.
“Launch: Silicon Valley is firmly established as a highly effective and
cost-efficient springboard for young companies into the marketplace,” said
SVASE President & CEO Chris Gill. “A good indication of our success has
been the number of companies who either met their investors at L:SV or it
helped them to close later rounds of financing.” After last June’s event,
at least five participating companies raised a combined $30-plus million by
Q3 2007.
Vjid Jafri, founder of Launch alumni cFares, noted: “Launch: Silicon
Valley was an extremely valuable event for cFares, as it was there that we
met the firm that subsequently became the lead investor in our latest round
of finance. We would not have achieved as much progress as we have without
Launch: Silicon Valley.”
Culminating the event again this year will be the selection of the
“most promising new company” in each of the six designated presenting
categories: information technology, mobility, security, digital media, next
generation internet, life sciences and clean tech.
Once again, the event is attracting many high profile sponsors. In
addition to Garage and Microsoft, sponsors already include Draper Fisher
Jurvetson; the Band of Angels; Sand Hill Angels; the Angels Forum; Cooley
Goddard Kornish; and White & Case.
