WASHINGTON, D.C. –(Business Wire)– Oct. 11, 2007 CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment 2007(R) today announced that Atish Gude, senior vice president of Mobile Broadband Operations in Sprint Nextel’s new Xohm business unit, will deliver the Day 3 Keynote Address on Thursday, October 25 at 9:30 a.m. CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment takes place October 23-25 in San Francisco at the Moscone Center, South Hall.
Sprint is developing a nationwide advanced wireless broadband network designed to mobilize the Internet, bring wireless innovation to devices and deliver new mobile multimedia applications to consumers, businesses and government customers. The company is working with ecosystem partners and others to incorporate WiMAX technology in a range of computing, portable multi-media, interactive and other consumer electronic devices, including the availability of Xohm WiMAX service in vehicles for navigation information, news and entertainment.
Sprint plans to have WiMAX pre-commercial service available in the Chicago, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. areas by year-end 2007. Commercial service is expected to be available in a number of markets starting April 2008 and is anticipated to cover 100 million people by year-end 2008 in conjunction with a planned partnership with Clearwire.
“The roll out of Sprint’s Xohm WiMAX service is an important event taking place in wireless this year,” said Robert Mesirow, vice president of business operations and show director for CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment. “Global audiences are closely watching the company’s progress in mobile broadband development. CTIA is the perfect place to address this initiative, with a projected global audience of more than 15,000 wireless industry professionals eager to hear about developments in Sprint’s mobile WiMAX program.”
“Sprint is changing the paradigm for telecom firms today with a progressive mobile Internet strategy,” Gude remarked. “The end result for our customers is a new form of interactive communications that includes high-speed Internet browsing, social networking tools, and multimedia services like music, video, TV and on-demand products through a new mobile portal. We are honored to be a part of CTIA’s industry-leading show.”
When Sprint selected mobile WiMAX as the technology platform for building its next generation mobile broadband business, Gude was appointed to build and run operations. In this role he is responsible for building and launching the Xohm mobile broadband business, including sales, marketing, product and service delivery, partnerships and customer management. Atish joined Nextel in 2000 as the vice president of Strategic Planning and later served as the senior vice president of Corporate Strategy for Sprint Nextel. He previously worked as a senior manager with Deloitte Consulting.
